Insight Eleven

Last Friday we held a new seminar called Insight Eleven at The Studio at The Hive in Manchester. It was a half day afternoon event followed by networking drinks and featured seven industry leaders from our region giving their insight into the trends and potential challenges and opportunities facing their particular comms sectors in the year ahead.

Sally Sykes & Tony Foggett

The seminar was opened by Sally Sykes, Comms Director for the Health and Safety Executive and President Elect of the CIPR with her views of the trends facing PR and particularly the Public Sector for 2011. Sally was followed by Tony Foggett, CEO of Code Computerlove with a fascinating view of the ever growing digital landscape including the rise of the tablet and the massive impact of mobile on the comms industry.

Martin Carr & Richard Gregory

I was personally very pleased to be including Martin Carr, MD of True North in our line up as the importance of great design should inform everything we do as communicators and his mantra of it being about solutions not pictures was perfect. Richard Gregory, Chief Operating Officer of Latitude closed the first session with an eye opening presentation on the importance of search marketing and the public's ongoing love with mobile devices.

Nicky Unsworth & Mike Perls

Following a short break we reconvened for our final three speakers of the afternoon. Nicky Unsworth, MD of BJL gave her predictions for the advertising world and quite rightly summed up the need for insight and collaboration in everything we do. Nicky was followed by Mike Perls, Chief Executive of MC2 with an inspired big picture presentation of the year ahead in marketing with specific attention to the economy and the increasing shift of audiences from mainstream channels to online.

Paul Fabretti & Panel Session

Paul Fabretti, Director of Digital Strategy at Origin Creative was our final speaker with one of the most eloquent overviews of social media I've ever heard and yet again the momentous rise of mobile devices loomed large. The seminar then concluded with a panel session featuring all our speakers and an opportunity for our 70 strong audience to ask questions of some of the most respected comms leaders in the North. This was followed by some drinks and informal networking, well it was a Friday after all!

There's already some great blog overviews of the seminar from Paul, Richard and delegate Darren Turpin and big thanks go out to our event sponsor GBM Digital and also to Julian and all his staff at The Studio, a fairly new venue in Manchester city centre with a cool vibe and some great facilities.

Here's Joy Division with one of those YouTube slide show type videos. I was surprised I couldn't find any live footage of Insight on there and aren't those pop up ads annoying...
